iPod usb cable disconnects ONLY with rockbox
adicm:
Hi everybody.... I was searching at this in the forum, but I was unable to find similar problems.
When I'm in front of my work station, I use foobar to play the music of my iPod as a portable drive. I has found something a little strange. When I connect the ipod with the rockbox firmware, I get a black and withe screen saing "do not disconnect" or something. A couple of days ago, a friend of mine see my iPod and take it to see it better. The connection was almost inmediatly get lost, and the ipod show the "OK to disconnect" message. I thougth that I had a defective usb cable, and borrow another one, from a friend that don't use rockbox, and never have has this problem. The problem was still in my ipod, and no matter the cable I use if I move the ipod when connected, the connection gets lost.
Yesterday, I connect the ipod, but directly from the apple firmware. I get the red message "Don not disconnect" (the apple one). I have been moving my ipod (in a not so tender way), but It just stay connected... I was wonder... Is it possible that Rockbox is having a problem when I move my ipod that cuts the comunication? I don't want to swith to the apple firmware every time I connect the ipod tho a pc, and to rockbox qhen i'm goning to listen to it...
Thanks for your help and regards...

Chronon:
The Disk Mode is all Apple code. Rockbox has nothing to do with anything the iPod does once a USB connection is established. Maybe the full USB mode in the firmware has better fault tolerance and can recover from brief interruptions better.

is there a rockbox diskmode being coded at all for the ipods? i know the diskmode that rockbox uses now is apples emergency disk mode.
adicm:
Yeah! I thougth the same, but after this, I don't know... I just want to know if this is possible or not, in order to know where the problem could be, in the cables, in my ipod connection port or if it is possible that it be in the rockbox code (someway, somehow...)
Chronon:
It's all Apple's code at that point.
There are definitely differences in the USB handler between the flash Disk Mode and the Disk Mode in the firmware (color Do Not Disconnect). For one thing data transfers are MUCH faster in the firmware Disk Mode. So it wouldn't surprise me if there were other differences as well. This still has nothing to do with Rockbox, however.
