Need a player recommendation under $200.00
« on: August 22, 2007, 01:13:36 AM »
I'm looking for a player to replace my 1st gen nano..  I'd just buy another of the same but I'm concerned about getting another on it's last legs (Anyone know a source for new 1st gens?).

What's another good player/port for under $200.00

I'd like something that you can increase playback speed.
bookmarks are essential
gapless would be nice but not essential

thanks!

Unless precluded by hardware (e.g. radio, recording), all rockox features are available on all targets.

If i had to change my ipod photo for something non-apple, i would have a look at the battery runtime pages and go for something that holds a long charge. As this is the only thing really missing on ipods at the moment.

I got a 4th gen (grayscale) 40gb ipod on ebay for $75.  I've had it for almost a year, never had any problem with it.  If you don't need to watch videos or have the fancy color WPS it is great!

During the last year, the RockBox firmware has gotten very stable for this thing.  It never crashes, and the user interface is very responsive now.  Big thanks to the development team.

The only downside is the battery life is still nowhere near that of the original firmware, but it's not a problem for me.

Recently picked up another F40 on eBay. Full kit (charger, cradle, remote, headphones, CD & manual), slight scratches, $50 shipped. Works perfectly.

eBay Gigabeats are a true Rockbox bargain.

I bought a complete iriver H320 package on eBay for $140 USD, which I gave to my girlfriend as an anniversary gift. The package had the H320 unit, two USB cables, AC charger, slipcase, manual, and software CD included.

Although they're a bit tougher to find, you can't go wrong with the iriver H1x0 or H3x0 series.

Solution: Buy a new H120, and get a 40GB single platter hard drive. Open your H120 up, pop in the drive, and voila! Instant H140! :)
