Is restart of the dynamic playlist possible?

(1/2) > >>

dip:
When I finish the present dynamic playlist by playing it until the end of the last song I find no way to restart it again (start playing from the first song). Isn't that possible? Sometime I would like to play it again or only to go through it to see what songs were played.

The list of the songs seems still to exist since I can choose "save current playlist" and the just finished playlist will be stored under the name "dynamic.m3u8". And when I have the option set "Warn when erasing dynamic playlist" the warning is shown when I select a new song for playing. So the dyamic playlist definitely seems to exist but I don't find a way to access it.

When I select "View current playlists" it says "No playlists". And when I select "Resume Playback" or simply press the play button it says "Nothing to resume".

Shouldn't the dynamic playlist be restarted when pressing play (after it was finished), like a CD player restarts an album when you press play after the album was finished?

No, because it's a dynamic playlist, only existing while it is being played. To re-create it, you have to go through the same selection process you went through to create it originally.

And of course, the point is that if you add some more music to your player then create a playlist from the same starting point as previously (Artist > Prince), the actual contents of that dynamic playlist may be different, because you have added music that fits the selection criteria (a new Prince album, for instance)

The best way, as you have found, is to save (and rename) it.

No, that's not true. I can save it after playback is finished, so it seems that the playlist still exists until it is overwritten (by creating a new dynamic playlist). And as already mentioned, the dynamic playlist overwrite warning appears even if I create a new dynamic playlist after playback of the previous dynamic playlist is finished. That means also to me that the previous dynamic playlist does still exisit at this moment.

Further, if the "Save current playlist" menu item works for the already finished dynamic playlist, wouldn't it only be consequent if the "View current playlist" also worked? In my opinion that would be a consistent behaviour, a great improvement to Rockbox and wouldn't harm anybody.

Sorry, I missed the detail that you had saved it after playback. In fact, it surprises me that that is possible, but I can see that it makes sense that the playlist still 'exists' until a new dynamic playlist is created.

I have to agree with that. It may be worth submitting a Flyspray feature request if one does not exist already.

I just created a Flyspray feature request under http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7624.
