A big up for rockbox !!
« on: August 19, 2007, 11:33:42 AM »

hey guys

after using and struggling with a friends unsupported player, I've come to a sudden realisation just how good the rockbox firmware is. Life with rockbox is easy.

It doesn't get any better !!

I'm glad there's already a topic for praise of Rockbox (no doubt there are others here!).

The more I use Rockbox on my Sansa e280, the more impressed I become--and I was already very impressed when  I first used Rockbox on my old Archos Recorder.

For example, the Sansa allows voice recording with surprisingly good audio quality.  But in wav.  No problem for Rockbox--it can be encoded on the machine into wv (lossless) or mp3.  So, all one needs is enough temporary space to record in wav.

No wonder Sandisk opened up its hardware to Rockbox.  I don't see how anyone could be happy with an un-Rockboxable iPod...

UPDATE:  Oh of course!  I just learned how to record directly to wavpack if I want (or to mp3).

They most certainly did not open anything to us. They gave us a few players, we did all the rest on our own without any help from them.

Oh.  I stand corrected.  I didn't mean to take any credit away from you guys.

I thought a couple rockbox devs met with some sandisk reps to get audio working on the player? I'm probably just fabricating some memory though... :D

:D Happy ipod nano user... I would never think of buying a new nano G3, unless they are supported by rockbox.
