« on: August 19, 2007, 06:07:44 AM »
Hello I bought my iRiver on ebay and meet probleme :

- firmware upgrated is not possible : nothing take place when I command the upgrade from the menu. Current version is 1.19E
- There still have 37GO free on the hard drive but when the iRiver is disconnected , it shows "0 MB free".
-when I add mp3 to hard drive and then disconnect my iRiver , it shows
     "0000 Folder(s)      0000 Song(s)

Vital functions work fine : the ecran ignites, hard disque is recognized, sound works because the radio works.

I need your help

Ensure that you have the correct Hex (firmware) file for your model player.
Is Rockbox already installed on your player ?.

1). Do a "Diskscan" of your players Hard Disk.

if you still cant read your files, then

2). I would suggest you format the players Hard Drive using either irivers "format" option in their menu or format via a P.C, IF you format with a P.C. then you must format as FAT32, NOT NTFS.
Note: backup all music before formatting.

Fix the File reading issue first before you do anything else.

I am guessing you are trying to go straight from 1.19 to 1.66, I wonder (just a thought) if trying an intermediate firmware might help?

About the disk not showing any files in the iriver firmware, I suggest as Dunno says to try first running chkdsk, then formatting.  If the screen is working as you say and you can get to the iriver firmware, first try formatting from there.  If you have 37 Gb free I'm guessing the player came empty, but a chkdsk might well help.

As far as I am aware, intermediate firmware is not necessary to upgrade--the firmware is fully contained.

I know, but if it nothing else works it is worth a go.

I think the idea is that being too large a gap, perhaps something in the way the .hex file is verified has changed. But I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the case.

It sounds like there's issues with the disk (or the connection to the disk) itself, considering the 0000 files thing.

Correct, and I agree, but it can't hurt to try if chkdsk etc doesn't help.

I've tried to upgrade with all versions and it always the same : doesn't work

try first running chkdsk, then formatting
I entered "chkdsk [volume:] [/f] [/v] [/r] [/x] [/i] [/c] " and it would seem that there aren't problems with the player because no error were found except that to the end of CHKDSK there was not report , so I can't say if the player is really empty.

It's no possible with firmware 1.19E

I try to do this for two days but I am not succeed with windows XP.Can you help me for this please ?

If it was the case what can I do without guarantee ?

No problem.

With XP it is difficult to do non-NTFS formats!  Try fat32format or Swissknife (both available via Google).

For the connection to the disk, try reseating it.  If you have no warranty, you might as well open the player.  You will need a torx screwdriver (T5 from memory).  Then try removing the disk and putting it back in.  There is a good guide on how to do this on the Mistic River (www.misticriver.net) wiki.

For chkdsk most of the switches you used were NTFS only, try chkdsk x: /f replacing x: with your drive letter.   If there is no output, that is suspicious.

Good luck.

Hello everyone I'm carrying good news.
My iRiver works perfectly thanks to your advices.

The problem was that my buyer had formatted the player as NTFS, so
I use FAT32 with swissknife.
Then I run CHKDSK and did the upgrade.

And now i'll install rockbox on my player.

Thanks to everyone , particularly BigBambi

Excellent, always glad to be of help!

Welcome to the wonderous world of rockbox - it absolutely destroys the original firmware.

I remember all those years ago hanging around here waiting for sound on the H100 series for what seemed like forever!

Bonne chance!
