getting voice file to initialize...
libbygirl:
Please help...My mom is visually imapired and I have installed rockbox for her. It shows up on the player fine, but- after downloading the voice file and copying it to language in rockbox, the file shows up on the computer but not on he mp3 player. It also doesn't turn on.
What can we do to get it running?
Please, please, please help. I have spent many hours reading through the forum and I can't understand the tech stuff at all and I can't find my topic anyway.
Thank you so very much for your time in helping me! :'(

You can try the following:
1.go to http://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml and download the 'latest' software and 'voice' corresponding to your model
2. extract the zip to your player
3. copy the lng to .rockbox/langs where the other *.lng files are stored
4. rename the voice file to: english.lng
5. reset all player's current settings: Settings -> Manage Settings -> Reset Settings
6. If still no voice, try rebooting
If it still fails, tell us, which model and language you use.

Be careful, the voice file needs to be renamed to english.voice - the place to store it is correct (in .rockbox/langs). Both is covered in the manual.
Check the voice settings on the player, if they are enabled and you are using the english language it should pick up the newly copied english.voice file automatically but it requires a reboot to start talking.
It's not as easy if you want to use it with a different language file but try getting it to work with english first.

Thank you for your response!
I took the player to Geek Squad and they said that the voice file seems to have been placed in the player as a mp3 file.
We are going to try unistalling rockbox and reinstalling it on the computer, putting the voice file in the langs folder of rockbox and then put the program on the player with the voice file already inside rockbox.
Does this sound like it might work?
Geek Squad thought it might.
Thank you again.

Why not just follow the steps described above. If you follow them properly, it will definitely work.
