yapper:
That answered my question too .. another 2G user who was trying to instal rockbox for the first time. I ran the Apple iPod Updater but still no recognition. Specifically, I get the following (note the parameter 1 - if this is omited the message is more vague):

C:\Documents and Settings\M.BFF\Desktop>ipodpatcher.exe 1
ipodpatcher v1.0 with v1.1 bootloaders - (C) Dave Chapman 2006-2007

I've got the same problem with the 1G ipod.  I was able to unzip the file onto the IPOD but ipodpatcher won't recognize it.  Not sure what to do as the 1G only has firewire?  Any suggestions?

Thanks to whoever went the extra mile to create a version for 1G/2G ipods!

etien:
there are no bootloader for the ipods 1G + 2G. It simply won't work. You'll just have to wait until one is released.

Llorean:
There are bootloaders for the 1st and 2nd generation iPods. There is no version of iPodPatcher for installing the botloader. iPodPatcher and the bootloaders are two different things, and it is important that people not get them confused.

Chronon:
Could they do something like the old instructions for installing via linux?  (I.e., use dd and make_fw to do the installation from a Linux box.)
