Problems installing RB onto iHP-120
biohazard:
I've followed all of the manual instructions, tried the experimental auto installer, and gone through 20 pages on this forum and still nothing works... :(
The main issue is that the player won't upgrade to the new bootloader patched firmware (or even to the official iRiver firmware). At the moment I'm using 1.33U (The hard drive on my player disconnected a few years back, so I sent it in, and they sent it back to me with this firmware version installed. I never bothered to try to upgrade it since I've gotten it back).
I've tried to install just the iRiver 1.66 US (without the bootloader patch) and that still won't work. The hex file is in the root directory. There is nothing else on the player except the RECORD folder. I go to the General folder, choose 'Upgrade Firmware', choose 'Yes', click down.... it tells me that it is upgrading and then it shuts off. When I turn it back on, its still on v1.33U :(
Does anyone have any ideas that could help? Thanks very much!

I'm afraid at this point it is an iriver problem, and I suspect it is them you shall have to ask.
I think most people here will just say ask iriver.
Domonoky:
hi,
i have a few suggestions.
First, you could try a non-US firmware version, as the US version has this DRM thing, and that could cause problems, but i dont know for sure.
Second, make sure the filename is correct, especially the CASE i think it should be lower case h120.hex or h300.hex.
And Third, try to flash the firmware two times, i heard from others that it only worked in the second try.

The hex file was all lowercase, just like I downloaded it from the iRiver site. I tried to flash the firmware a couple times straight.. didn't work. Tried the EU version... didn't work. :(

It does indeed seem to be an issue with the player. I sent an email off to iRiver... let's see if they even care about a 4 year old mp3 player :-\
Thanks for the advice Domonoky & Bambi...
AlexP:
Good luck! I suspect iriver will offer to fix it for a small fortune... :(
