Flashed Rockbox H140 problems
« on: August 15, 2007, 11:22:41 AM »
I flashed the rockbox firmware to my player a while ago, and have been having troubles with the daily builds for a couple months, things like "filetype array full", hanging when loading songs, the plugins directory saying "no files", and various other errors I didn't have before.  I have tried deleting the rockbox directory and file from the root directory, and installing many different current builds (including the most recent) but all have had the same problem.

I am confused about this message on the iriver flash page:

"If you want to restore the original firmware, you can do so by using a file from either one of these methods:

    * Convert an original firmware provided by iRiver from ihp_120.hex to ihp_120.bin"

what do I use to convert the file to bin (i assume there is more involved then simply renaming the file?)

for restoring the original firmware on h1x0 and h3x0 you just have to put an original firmware on the disk, boot the original firmware (via the correct button press at boottime), and use the "update Firmware" option in the original firmware.

and about your problems with plugins, that normally happens if you only update the .rockbox folder.
you could try to delete ".rockbox" and "rockbox.iriver" (if you still have this in the root dir) and unzip a fresh build again.. if this doesnt help, you could try a scandisk to check if there are errors on the disk..

well, i cannot boot the original firmware anymore, because I have flashed the rockbox bootloader.

But I have found that all of the problems occur when booting from the ROM image or RAM image, whereas rockbox seems to function correctly when booting from disk, so I will just set that as the default option at the moment.

No, you have flashed Rockbox. If you'd merely flashed the bootloader, the original firmware would be loadable.

If I were you I wold do a "CLEAN" install of rockbox with the most current build, I have also flashed Rbox to Rom and have no problems at all with the recent current build.

I follow the instructions on the page below when flashing to ROM

Yes, I followed those directions as well.

I did do a clean install (although the [SQUARE]D file in the rockbox directory has never been able to be deleted, even before rockbox flashing)

There were no errors found on the drive, but the same "no files" and "filetype array full", and the player freezes when trying to play files, all when running in ROM or RAM mode.

Disk mode runs fine, barring looking in the version menu, which freezes.

Bootloader version is 7-pre3

I think the problem lies here:

When booting in disk mode, the version says 070815
When booting in RAM or ROM mode, the version says 070626

Am I supposed to reflash or manually update the RAM and ROM mode on every build change? I do not recall reading anywhere about that.

you MUST manually reflash after every update that you do, first set boot sequence to disk, then flash to ram and then to rom.

I was just posting this when you replied:  :D

NOTE !: With bootloader V7, prior to installing a new build in a pre-flashed player, change the default boot sequence to Disk, then Re-flash, and then restore the boot sequence to your preference

so Ill do that, im sure everything will work fine.  Thanks again.

The version menu still freezes the player, if anyone cares.

But everything else seems to work great  ;)

Please read our forum guidelines, specifically the bit about double posting.
