ipod 5.5 80gb / can you play divx, xvid, etc. w/ rockbox?

i'm wondering what all file formats you can play with rockbox and the mpegplayer plugin...

currently i know you can play:
mp3, flac, aac, mpeg1,2,3

i'm really wondering if it is possible to play:
mkv, divx/xvid (avi), mov, mp4, wma/wmv

are there any extra plugins i need to get these to run?
a VLC port would be nice :D!

WMA works, but none of the video formats you mentioned are supported.

Rockbox can only play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video with the MPEGplayer plugin. The plugin is still at a rather early stage, and due to lack of documentation on the Broadcom video chip in the iPod video, don't expect very satisfactory performance on the iPod. (Take it from someone who has an iPod video as well!)

And speaking of VLC, you can transcode videos through VLC into a supported Rockbox format. Details, as well a batch file for Windows, are located here:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer

MPEGplayer is already included with Rockbox. Just copy a video file to your iPod (and make sure it's a supported format!), and select it in the File View as if it was a music file. The MPEG player will start automatically.

"MP4" isn't really a video format on its own, but I'll assume you mean h.264:

Most of these players are far too slow to play back complex formats quickly. As well, they absolutely cannot scale the video to the screen *and* play it, so you'll have to scale it in advance. If you're doing so anyway, you're transcoding / recompressing, so you may as well transcode to the already supported format, right?

since this is on topic and the questions were answered. i (dont wanna feel like im steeling this thread) i tried to format a video to the correct format for my ipod video and all that came out was a black screen with only sound. it wouldnt even play 1 second in wmp. am i doing something wrong. maybe the video converter i used is doing it wrong? all i do is drag and drop the video on top of this  vlc file and wait a few moments.

Unless you've installed an mpeg2 decoder in wmp, theres no reason to expect wmp to play mpeg2 files.

What does this have to do with the original post, at all, other than both being about video? Why couldn't you start a new post?
