Auto skip while shuffle is on ?
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:26:01 AM »
Is there an option (or patch) which will let you select certon songs or albums to be automatically skipped while shuffle is enabled ?
Like the option in iTunes and iPods original O/S.

And if not, can this be some thing created in a Theme (knowing you can see what song is q'ed next, then just checking a extra field to skip) or does it have to be a patch ?

Thanks for any direction.

Well you could acheive this by removing the songs you don't want to play from the playlist as you shuffle it...

That is realized, would still like to know if this feature exists in RockBox or a patch and if not can a theme send "press-button commends" or does it have to be a patch. Seams like a patch would be the way to go if the function does not exists.

I don't understand. Removing songs from the playlist acheives exactly what you want - this is "de-selecting them".

How would your proposed patch work differently ?

It wouldn't, aside from not having to deal with a "Master" play list which only excludes 15-20 albums.

I personally use play lists to isolate stuff, 70's rock would be in one list, 80's rock would be in another list, rock in general would be in the "All Rock" list, Compilations would be in another list, Ragga with horns would be in a list Ragga with-out horns would be in another, but sometime (about 60%) i just like ot hit play and play everything except for Compilations and a few misc albums.

To create a playlist and keep updating it every time i add something new to the iPod seams to be a waist of time if i can just tick one box while im tagging an album and be done with it.

Its not a big deal, i just dont want to "re-invent the wheel" if a patch already exists or if there a setting already which i have skipped over and missed.

By the questions and suggestions the two of you have posted, can i assume there is not a setting for this nor a patch ?
Seams like a simple enough task to get my feet-wet, plus i wouldnt mind seeing the 'Label' tag which Tag&Rename uses (quick peek, i think its - TPUB) being put to use so i can stop using the Composer field :)

I just recently stumbled across RockBox and when i have some free time wouldn't mind playing around with stuff and tailoring stuff a little, but i don't want to waist time and re-invent things.

1) PLEASE do not include large chunks of empty space at the end of your posts. It just makes things harder to read.

2) Investigate the tagnavi options. It sounded like you were willing to remove them yourself, but the tagnavi could be used to base which tracks are available based on the tags, so you could have one entry that is all "Excluded songs" and one list that is all "Not-Excluded" songs, that updates automatically based on say, the contents of the comment tag.

i can see a use for this, in wanting to skip certain "genres" of music.  like Speech or something.  i usually just use smart playlists from Monkey, and avoid those genres.  but since so many people use Rockbox originated playlists, this could be useful.

I just separate my music and non-music files into 2 different hierarchies. This way it is very easy to create an "All" music playlist or to just browse my music and non-music files. Also check out the "random folder advance config" plugin.
