Very long tracks; iPod 5.5 80GB; Menu unavailable

(1/1)

aquinas50:
I have an iPod 5.5 80GB and installed Rockbox on it successfully 2 days ago. I have had no success finding an answer to this question, so I post my question here.

Most of my tracks are 1.5 hours or longer, some 4.5 hours. They play fine in Rockbox, but the display freezes and I cannot move to the next track or the previous track, or use the Menu key, for example, to get the Main Menu and Settings to adjust the volume. The only way I can get out of the track is to reboot with Menu+Select. I am using iTunes version of AAC (.m4a), mp3 (LAME 3.96) or ogg (Audacity 1.24b).

Is there some setting that I can use to allow Rockbox to play these very long tracks and still allow me to use the Menu key and otherwise use Rockbox normally?

Llorean:
Very long AAC tracks aren't expected to play at all after a certain size, while very long MP3s and Ogg/Vorbis should be fine. And, at least for long MP3, work fine for me.

Could you provide more information, for example does this happen with all types and what size seems to be the maximum?

aquinas50:
Thank you for your reply.

I first noticed the problem with an OGG track that was around 500MB long and it exhibited the behavior noted. I haven't done tests to see what is the maximum length that works OK. I cannot remember the length of the long MP3 files that exhibited the behavior. My OGG files are encoded at Q10 (highest) in Audacity 1.24.

I shall do some tests, probably this coming weekend (18-19 August 2007) or the one after that, and get back to you with more detailed information.
