Ipod: iTrip and external charger (was: Making my iPod basic functionalities...)

Hi,

I just installed rockbox and I just saw those two issues:

1. My Ipod used to be plugged in my car to an iTrip and it does NOT work with rockbox and it's quite annoying.

2. I used to charge my ipod via usb connection (with a usb to wall outlet ebay adaptor) and it seems like Rockbox just won't let things charge right. I need to either boot the Apple firmware or get it in disk mode to work it out. I tried the "Charge on usb conection" setting but it still don't work.

Any ideas?

Others appear to be able to use an iTrip:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WorkingWithPatches?topic=IpodAccessories

What trouble are you having exactly?

It works fine for me.  What makes you say that it doesn't work?  Are you observing that actual battery percentage, or are you just looking for charging animation on the WPS?  Not all WPSes implement charging animation.

It's just that when I plug things in, it shuts down as usual and then restarts and then shutdown again, etc. And my battery's just draining without charging. Thought it was weird, no?

For the iTrip, it doesn't even show any signs of activity... It is this model (in black, but who cares...):

1.  What model of iPod?

2.  What build version are you using?

3.  Try holding menu as you connect the iPod.

That's listed as the iTrip LCD.  I have that unit and it does not currently work because Rockbox cannot send the "turn on" command to the unit.  I have seen a (very crude!) workaround involving turning the unit on while using the Apple firmware, connecting an auxiliary battery to keep it powered, then restarting the player into Rockbox.  Once Rockbox has booted you can disconnect the auxiliary battery and it should stay on in Rockbox.  However, this requires you to attach some new leads to the iTrip and I decided it wasn't worth the trouble for me.
