FFWD/RWD Iriver H140 not maintaining position
« on: August 09, 2007, 04:00:58 PM »
G'day all,
Sorry if this has been posted before (I have looked but can't find anything).

Anyway, I've just installed RockBox for the first time on my H140 (and I must say I'm very impressed), but have noticed that when fast forwarding or rewinding, the position marker does do as expected, but when i let go, it just continues playing from where i began the ffwd/rwd.

Is this a bug, or have i missed something in the documentation.

Thanks
Dave

What build revision are you using? Check by going to System > Rockbox Info and read the number that starts with r.

I don't have problems with seeking. But your report is quite short ...
- what file type are you using? There are file types that don't allow seeking / are inaccurate while seeking.
- I assume you are using a current build. Is this correct?

Howdy,
Thanks for the info.
It does look like it doesn't work on WMA which is know are in an early state of development.  MP3's seem to work as expected  :)

Is there a file or something that states the current limitations of WMA's anywhere?

Thanks again for your help.
Dave
PS. Version used: r14243-070808

please, when quoting don't bottom-quote everything. This is a forum and doing so is completely useless and annyoing (which is the same as for mailing lists).

As far as I know wma only is lacking seeking support and has known issues with low bitrate files.

Doesn't Shorten (SHN) lack seeking as well?

Would "seeking" include skipping to next track/beginning of track?
...which doesn't work for me.

I also have a wma file that ends when there's about 40 s left.
This does not happen when I play it on my computer.

no -- seeking is not skipping (but I guess you were aware of that ;))

this sounds like a problem with the decoder. Unfortunately you didn't tell any details about the file so it's hard to tell if that is something known for some parameters your file matches. You might want to come to irc and talk to saratoga, he's doing the main work on the wma decoder.

Sorry. The only skipping not working is BACK to the start of the track (and further to the previous track).
This is the case for both the two :) WMAs I have. One of 64 kbits and one of 192 kbits.

This is with the file of 64 kbits and not the one with 192 kbits.
Both is 44.1 kHz WMA 9 stereo (says Quicktime player)

Post your files or gmail them to me (mgiacomelli) and I'll take a look at them.

I'll probably add seeking support for wma in a couple days once i'm sure its stable.
