1.  I can assure you that your iPod is recoverable.

2.  However, you need to calm down.  I have removed the profanity in your post this time, but I will not do it again.    Next time, I will simply delete your post.  If you would like our help, we are happy to provide it, but you must read and respect our posting guidelines.

--- Quote ---its stuck at the little error screen that tells me to press certain buttons to run it in disk mode, well guess what, doing that doesn't work.

Disk mode will ALWAYS work.

You need to reset the player.  Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously until the player restarts.  You may need to hold those two buttons for up to 30 seconds before this occurs.  As soon as it restarts, press and hold Select and Play/Pause simultaneously.  This will enter disk mode.

--- Quote ---Why can't the program just be a damn .exe instead of a long complicated process!

There is an installer:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome?topic=RockboxUtility

Please feel free to try it out.

--- Quote ---I'm just pissed off because this was an expensive ipod, and your little program which shouldn't be released yet, it still has tons of kinks to work out comes and ruins it.

As a point of fact, it has NOT been released yet.   The installation instructions in our manual make this clear.  You use Rockbox at your own risk.  That said, Rockbox has been installed on thousands of iPods and there is not one single case of Rockbox where Rockbox has ruined the iPod.

Let me explain more precisley what happens. When I turn my ipod on, it remains at the black screen, with the silver apple. It will remain that way, forever, unless I press the hold button. By pressing the hold button, I am brought to a screen that says "error, couldn't find rockbox.ipod". It also says, press and hold menu and select to reboot, then press select and play for disk mode. Here is where I get confused. Still at the black error screen, I press and hold select and play, for over a minute. Nothing. I reboot it, at the silver and black apple screen, I press and hold select. Nope, nothing. WHILE, rebooting I press and hold select and play. No results. I don't know when to press and hold select and play. So if you could give me step by step instructions on WHERE to press and hold select and play I would be greatful. Sorry I was in a pissy mood earlier, I'de like to use rockbox, but Its just to complicated for me.

Llorean:
Hold Menu+Select. As soon as the screen clears, IMMEDIATELY hold Select+Play. You need to hold them down.

Then you need to go back and read the section of the manual called "Installing the Firmware" because you didn't do the steps in it properly.

Ok, that is helpful, but I forgot to mention, how will I know when it is in disk mode? What screen should I see? So that I know I did it right.

Febs:
It will say "Do not disconnect" or "OK to disconnect," depending on whether you're connected to USB at the time.

shoey:
I think its working! I'll keep you all updated, so check back at this thread later.
