 >:( Well, Do to the fact that my install went wrong in so many ways, my video ipod is now dead. At this point, I just need help installing this *** thing. When I use the boot loader, to uninstall, it always says it cant find an ipod. My ipod is plugged in, and turned off, either stuck at the black apple screen or a screen with an error message, saying it can't find rockbox.ipod. So it says run it in disk mode, well thats another thing thats just **** great, its stuck at the little error screen that tells me to press certain buttons to run it in disk mode, well guess what, doing that doesn't work. I can't put it in **** disk mode, yes all the buttons work, and the ipod is in great conditition.  So thats just **** dandy ain't it? I need to run it in disk mode, but the little error won't let me. So what then? I'm ****? Why can't the program just be a damn .exe instead of a long complicated process! Also, GodEater said "Oh your ipod should be plugged into drive /F: or some ****, THERES NO SUCH THING. Great, and thanks again for nothing. I'm just pissed off because this was an expensive ipod, and your little program which shouldn't be released yet, it still has tons of kinks to work out comes and ruins it. I'm not saying its a bad program, it seems good, but the only *** problem is the fact that you need to be a *** einstein to use it. I'll be gracious if you can help me fix it, but I doubt that, I've tried everything.

Disk mode is handled by the Apple firmware, not rockbox, so it will always work unless you've physically damaged your ipod.

Try getting into disk mode again.  You cannot uninstall the bootloader otherwise.

Also, for what its worth, it sounds like the problem is that you skipped the step where you copy rockbox onto your ipod, and so you have no operating system for the bootloader to load.

Shoey-

1.  I can assure you that your iPod is recoverable.

2.  However, you need to calm down.  I have removed the profanity in your post this time, but I will not do it again.    Next time, I will simply delete your post.  If you would like our help, we are happy to provide it, but you must read and respect our posting guidelines.

Disk mode will ALWAYS work.

You need to reset the player.  Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously until the player restarts.  You may need to hold those two buttons for up to 30 seconds before this occurs.  As soon as it restarts, press and hold Select and Play/Pause simultaneously.  This will enter disk mode.

There is an installer:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome?topic=RockboxUtility

Please feel free to try it out.

As a point of fact, it has NOT been released yet.   The installation instructions in our manual make this clear.  You use Rockbox at your own risk.  That said, Rockbox has been installed on thousands of iPods and there is not one single case of Rockbox where Rockbox has ruined the iPod.

I'm certainly much less intelligent than Einstein, but thanks for the compliment.  :P

Your iPod is fine. Calm down. You "F"ed up the install, but it's not dead.
Step 1 is to calm down. Step 2 is to take your time. Step 3 is to read everything twice BEFORE you try anything.

I've had an iPod 3G and an iPod 4G running RB in the past and neither has given me any installation problems.

Take her easy. Good luck.
