Playing all songs in the database (was: The best/recommended way of doing this?)

Hi all

Let's say I want to listen to ALL the songs in my database, randomly. Currently, the way of achieving this that I would use is to add all songs to a playlist and play the playlist, of course, with shuffle on. The problem with this is that sometimes I delete a song, and then I have to rebuld the playlist, which is annoying.

With the Cowon original firmware (I have an iAudio), I did the same just by "playing" the music root directory and activating shuffle.

Is there any better way in RockBox of doing the same?

I don't quite understand what you're asking. You can simply "Play" any song in the All Tracks entry in the database (or use the context menu on it, and choose "Insert Shuffled" under Playlist).

If I do what you suggest (insert shuffled "") and I delete a song, I have to rebuild the playlist (that is, insert shuffled again), haven't I? I mean, will not the player crash if it tries to play a deleted song? In the end, the song is no longer on the disk but it is in the playlist (no matter if a "normal" playlist or the dynamic one.

To avoid this problem I rebuid playlists when needed. My question was about a better way of doing the same: being safe by avoiding playing deleted songs but without having to rebuild the playlist.

Anyway, I've tested: rockbox doesn't seem to crash if you delete a song and it is still present in the playlist, it is just ignored, so I think I'll do what you suggest: insert all tracks and from time to time, do that again (so the playlist doesn't have a lot of deleted songs).
