I have refreshed my database but my .aac files are not showing up. How do I check the tags? I have tried open with viewer but it's just gobbledygook

If you really mean the file extension is ".aac", then they will not be loaded by Rockbox. The AAC data must be in an MP4 container with one of the extensions .m4a, .m4b or .mp4. But I suspect this isn't the problem here... :)

Tags can be checked by several programs, e.g., Foobar2000 or MP3Tag (on Windows). But you can try to play the file from the file browser. That shows if Rockbox can play the file (it is a little picky about MP4 files) and if so, you can use the ID3 Info screen to see what tags Rockbox sees.
