Shutdown vs. Stop vs. Pause
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:23:21 AM »
I listen to my music mostly at work and sometimes I am forced to stop listening to music and focus on my work.

I was wondering if I know I'm not going to be listening to music for the next 5 minutes should I pause the music, stop the music or shutdown the player?
Does the same apply for 15 minutes?
Half an hour?
An hour?

I just would like to know what's best to conserve battery power. Thank you.

Stopping the player will discard the playback buffer, so when resuming playback the disc needs to spin up to fill the buffer again. Turning off the player needs to reload the complete system, so it needs more battery. OTOH, when the player is in idle mode it also needs battery, which makes it dependent of your pause time if it's better to pause playback or shutdown the player.

Your best bet is probably to simply pause the music, then let the idle shutdown handle everything else for you.
