Font Settings Disappear?

Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post; this is my first post to the forums.  I did attempt to search for an answer to this but (probably my own fault) I didn't find anything.

My font settings (doesn't matter what I choose, behaviour is the same regardless) apparently get reset back to the default after a power down / power up cycle.    Is there a setting somewhere that I'm supposed to use to get the system to remember this?

After power down/up is complete my initial screen, with "files", "database" and so on is in such a small font as to be virtually unreadable.

This is on a Gigabeat F40 which I'm using to familiarize myself with Rockbox before I put it on my F60.

What SVN revision are you using, and how are you selecting the font?

By "SVN" I am assuming you mean version?  In that case, it is R13955-070722

I am setting the font via "settings -> general -> display -> browse fonts" and then choosing one of the larger ones (these 56 year old eyes ain't so hot anymore)

I also lose the backlight settings I make .. I change them to 90 seconds, when I power back on they're set to 5 seconds.

Am I supposed to be *saving* these new settings somewhere?  If so, I'm clearly missing the where's and how's of that.

Please always verify that a problem happens with the current version before reporting anything. Yours is five days old. There's been a bug in settings saving that has been fixed recently, which is why we require in the guidelines that you be using the absolute latest build at any time you report something.

Try it, and see if it resolves your problem.

I didn't realize that builds occured so frequently, thank you for that heads up.  I'll be sure to install the latest before posing questions in the future.

Having said that I did upgrade, now on R14031-070727 with the same results.   Changed the font to "nimbus14" and changed the display time-off settings to 90 secs.  Turned off / turned on ... system reverts to small fonts on main menu, and backlight off at 5 or 10 seconds.

I have a Gigabeat F40 and am not experiencing this problem.

How are you shutting down? I turned my player on, changed the font to Nimbus-14, and shut down. When I turned it back on the font was still changed.

After changing the font, shutting down, turning back on, does a file config.cfg exist in your .rockbox directory? If you open it in notepad does it have a line describing which font you've selected?

Checked the .cfg file in the /.rockbox directory and yes, it *does* reflect the changes I made.  

My "shutdown" process has been to (well, had been to) disconnect both the power and the USB from the F40, long press the power button until it was off, long press the power button until it was on and then observe the main menu as being incorrect based on what I thought I had done.

After reading your last post, in between the power off and the power back on, I turned the battery off for about 5 seconds and then back on.    This seems to have resolved the problem, as both the main menu and the backlight settings are as I intended.

I guess the moral of this story would be 1) make sure you have the latest build and 2) it can't hurt to turn the battery off for a few seconds  .

I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind this (I thought the battery off was only when the firmware was updated), but I can certainly easily live with it!

Thank you *again* for the assistance.     Damn nice tool you folks have put together here.   Now to see if I can get some video working.   That'll be tomorrow's thing though.

You shouldn't need to turn the battery off. I suggest seeing if settings now persist across shutdowns properly without turning the battery off (I never do). You also shouldn't need to unplug from the main power supply.
