E280R
« on: July 26, 2007, 02:11:15 PM »
Hello,
I just bought an E280R a few days ago and I'm already sick of the garbage firmware Sansa uses. Does anybody know exactly what would happen if I tried loading Rockbox to my Sansa E280R?

Absolutely nothing, because the R models are not supported yet, and it's stated clearly on the front page that they aren't.

Take your Sansa back to whatever store you got it from and ask for a non-Rhapsody Sansa (no R in the model number). If you got it from Best Buy, ask for a refund and try another store that sells the e200 Sansas.

(Side note: a friend of mine did the same thing: he accidently purchased a Sansa e250R from Best Buy, and took it back when he found out it wasn't supported. He got a regular E250 from another store instead.)

There are 8gb non-R Sansas.

You cannot install Rockbox on an -R model. The installation will fail. It's that simple.

As Llorean stated, there's a non-Rhapsody e280 as well. The R models have different encryption that we're still trying to figure out.

Besides, haven't you seen the full slogan for Best Buy?

Nobody is working on the R model. Nobody who owns one seems up to the task. Waiting could very possibly mean you'll never use Rockbox on it, just giving fair warning.

If you feel up to the task, you're more than welcome to give it a shot. There's a forum thread already set up for the Rhapsody in the "New Ports" section for you to catch up on what's been figured out so far.

Here it is:

this may sound stupid but...what would happen if I reformatted the player and loaded regular e200 series firmware too it?

I think someone already tried that and got nothing. Check that forum thread I linked to; it's on there.

Why don't you read the E200R thread before asking questions.
