database won't initialize

(1/1)

bambam:
i installed rockbox two days ago on my gigabeat f40 and i'm loving it... except the problem is that the database won't initialize. i've tried rebooting numerous times, waiting 10-15 minutes, and replacing rockbox with the most current build a number of times...

so i try deleting the temp database file made in the rockbox directory and then try initializing the database again... it would find the files and then tell me to reboot, so i reboot... and when i try accessing the database after that, it tells me the database is not ready and to initialize it all over again.

i've also tried playing around with the "load in ram" and autoupdate options, still no luck.

oh, and my brother has the gigabeat F10, his works without any problem on the newest build.

Same thing happened to me and it took awhile to track it down. Turned out it was some overlarge comment tags in the file put in by Media Monkey. I would suggest checking your tags. It may not work but then again it may.

Do you happen to have a ridiculously large amount of music?

What do you consider "ridiculously large"?  I just successfully initialized the database, and I have 10,427 music files in 1379 directories on my 60 GB iPod.

I have roughly 8 thousand songs on my Gigabeat, and it took about twenty minutes for the database to build. Maybe he just hasn't got the patience for RockBox to build his database completely?
