why no use of buttons?

In the gigabeat if you go to System > Debug (Keep Out!)>View I/O ports while the gigabeat is on it base with usb or not when you press the buttons on the base the Entry labled GPFDAT: changes when you press the buttons so why no use of  said buttons? >:(

What exactly would you like this dock button to do?  It can't be something essential as many people don't have their Gigabeat in the dock at all times.
