Re-enabling DRM [H300] [rock box will have to be removed unfortunately!]

What's damaged is in flash, and you can't access the flash from the computer, so any process to repair it would have to involve a h300.hex file and instructing the original firmware to do a firmware upgrade.

I'm slightly confused. You can't flash the device after you've installed rock box?

I'm not asking rock box to support DRM. I'm asking you to keep the original firmware intact.

At best I was hoping originally, that you would find a way to work around damaging the firmware. but there doesn't seem to be any motivation to put the work that entails. Who knows, someone still me kick in and put the metal to the pedal and try to accomplish it yet.

what I'm hoping for now is to find some way of removing rock box and restoring the US firmware with its DRM capabilities.

No.  What Llorean is saying is that the directions you posted do not contain any step that involves re-flashing firmware, and so it is difficult to see how they would work.

I never suggested that you were asking Rockbox to support DRM.  I just made the observation that most H300 users who visit these forums have already flashed to Rockbox, which means that they already made the decision to abandon DRM support (if they had a US H300).  My point was only that you're more likely to find people at Mistic River that care about DRM support on the H300.

And what we're trying to tell you is that since any implementation of DRM relies on secrecy, and hiding information from the end user, that's there no way for us to know how to reliably restore the DRM functionality of a player after you've placed Rockbox on it. The DRM key is hidden in the flash area somewhere, and that somewhere is damaged when you flash the player with the Rockbox bootloader.

You're now asking us to verify instructions given to you by iRiver America - and we've very little interest in doing it - especially since it makes no sense. Flashing a player is a fairly intensive thing to do to it, and shouldn't be done on a daily basis. I can see no reason why you think you'd want to install Rockbox in the first place if DRM is important to you. If it is - just leave your player alone.

sorry, I should've made myself a bit more clear. I was simply hoping someone would test the idea or give their thoughts on if they thought it would work.

You've given your thoughts on the idea. I can't ask for more than that.

How I approached Iriver was to say I flashed my US version to international and when I flashed back I couldn't play DRM anymore. That's how they responded.[look at first post] I was hoping that somehow that could be applied to restoring the original firmwareafter uninstalling rock box.

I know it's a shot in the dark but it was still worth a try.
