Are you using an Ipod?  The configurable buttons will not work for those players.  Sansa's will also not work 100% because the current configurable button code does not detect scrollwheel events.

It seems to work great on the Gigabeat, though!

Do you have a Sansa? If you'd read what he said, he was very clearly talking about Sansas, which do NOT have a touch sensitive wheel (which your statement suggests your player has, so I'm guessing some form of iPod).

I apologize if my first response sounded standoffish, and I would like to change the tone that this thread is going.  I was talking about the "configurable button code" that is accessed within the menus labeled "Buggy" for a reason.  The behavior in game is effectively unrelated.

The code that is used for button events in game has some other tweaks that are not used in the "configurable button code" relating to scroll wheel position detection and scrollwheel events.  I'm not going to go into the fine details here.  If someone understands C, has at least attempted to understand the code, and has a well founded question on why it does not work feel free to ask through a PM and I will be happy to explain whatever needs clarification.  If interested, the two sections I am referring to are sys_rockbox.c (starting near the top) and menu.c (getbutton and setupkeys).

I would mainly be interested in helping someone who wants to contribute back to the project with code.  I also apologize to miles_powers if you were genuinely looking for understanding on how to fix the problem, but it is not a 1 line fix and requires some understanding which led to my simple response to a question that just scratched the surface.

As a note, I have little interest in fixing the problem on sansa's or ipod's for my own sake (but I would be happy to give pointers to someone else).  I do not own either player, and I only occasionally have access to an ipod nano for testing.  The great thing about open source is if there's a bug or feature missing you can always fix/add it yourself if you are proactive.

Chronon, I agree, they work wonderful on the Gigabeat, and it's great to see positive feedback here occasionally rather than bug reports, problems with setup, etc.

That's probably just the nature of forums like this.  Much of the activity gets devoted to technical support for new users and pointing out bugs in new features.  There's just less of a force compelling people to spontaneously report successful operation; sort of a case of "no news is good news", I guess.
