Uh oh - 60GB 5th gen video probs..

So I'm having a problem with Rockbox on my Ipod 5th Gen (60gb).

Basically I went to update the firmware and do a fresh install of the bootloader because I kept getting these "device not recognised" error, as well as a "parameter is incorrect" error when copying files under Windows XP. So I plug in my Ipod, and an error came up. Basically wouldn't recognise the drive, saying it was corrupt. Does this mean my ipod is borked and needs a format? I've tried loading in disk mode and in the ipod firmware, and I get the same problem.

If I can get away without a format, that'd be good...

Still plays music most of the time. Occasionally when I plug in under rockbox firmware, the player doesn't get recognised, and then comes up with an error, something along the lines of Could not find playlist something or other... Could this be a bad case of a corrupt partition?

It does rather sound as if you're ipod filesystem is in a bad way.

This may be fixed by running a chkdsk /f under windows - but if that doesn't work, then you may need to try a format too.

Be warned - if the hard drive is really damaged, even a format may not help - so try to get as much off the ipod as possible before you do this.

I had a nasty feeling you'd say that.

Unfortunately, I can't open the drive in windows.

I'm going to try a different PC and see if that makes a difference, but other than that, I'm running out of ideas.

Really slow going, after two minutes, all I've been able to gleam is that it's a FAT32 partition...
