Broken ipod?
mickmos:
I know this has nothing to do with rockbox but i purchased an ipod video off ebay with the intention of installing rock box on it but have found the machine to be faulty. Th problem is that when i put the headphones in the sound only comes out of 1 ear. but if you put it in half in and half out it will work in both ears. I have tried 3 different pairs of headphones and they all have the same problem. does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem or should i ask for a refund. I apoligise again for posting this in the wrong forum but its the only ipod based forum im a member of. Any information would be greatly appreated.
thanks.

If you've tried multiple pairs of headphones and all exhibit the same problem, then most likely the headphone jack in your iPod is faulty. It may be possible to fix this, but not easily unless you are comfortable opening the iPod and very good with a soldering iron. If it were me, I would seek a refund from the seller.
AquaStreak:
Why do you mention a soldering iron? 5G's don't have any soldering in them (if they do, its not for this).
My friends iPod had this same issue. He had a 30GB 5.5G. What happens is one of the contacts in the headphone jack broke.

And how are the electronic components attached to the PCB? Using hot air?

Didn't you know? Apples products are held together by pure fashion.
