(solved) Playback broken on Nano
« on: July 20, 2007, 06:40:28 AM »
I just updated to current (r13938) from a 2006 build and had problems playing anything (would crash with seemingly random error message). After searching the forums I updated the bootloader to no avail. I even formated my iPod, installed the bootloader and everything else again, and still it starts playing perhaps one time out of ten. Otherwise it's prefetch aborts, data aborts, or codec failures.

I've tried everything. Has my nano kicked the bucket or is there something I can do? :-\

As a side note, I reset the settings and tried playing, but instead of seeing the default WPS, I see iCatcher but without any bitmaps loaded and with a "Codec Failure" on top. ::)

It probably wouldn't do any good, since my iPod is working just fine now. :o

I have no idea what caused the problems, but everything seems to be in order. An hour or so ago I tried playback again, and it worked, so I rebooted and tried again, and to my amazement, it still worked. So, I put my music back onto the iPod and went to do some shopping. I noticed considerable amounts of distortion (caused by the decoder? volume level did not affect the distortion), which went away with a reboot. For some 15 minutes after that there were significant amounts of MPEG stream artifacts (blips etc), but no crashes, and even the artifacts disappeared over time. :P

I really don't know what to say... perhaps the flash disk is starting to show its age? ???
