Where did I go wrong?
« on: July 19, 2007, 04:26:06 PM »
I just downloaded Rockbox onto my 5th gen Ipod, brand new. I unzipped it onto the ipod. There's 5 folders, Calendars, Contacts, Ipod_Control, Notes, rockbox. I then did the Booter, which was successful, but when i started up the iPod I got the issue mentioned first in the thread at the top of the forum. I followed the instructions, and am currently in disk mode, but I don't see anything I did wrong. Inside the rockbox folder there's a .rockbox folder. Should the rockbox folder be deleted with the .rockbox being put directly on the iPod? Or am I totally missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, there should be no "rockbox" folder, and the ".rockbox" folder should be directly in the root of the iPod (in the same place as the Calendars, Contacts, etc folders).

Do I need to run the booter again?

No. As long as you didn't uninstall it.

And there is nothing called "the booter". I assume you're referring to "ipodpatcher" which installs something called a "bootloader."

Yeah Bootloader. Didn't have it in front of me, and forgot exactly what it was called. Thanks for your help.

One more thing, I made the change and now it's frozen on the OK to disconnect screen, even after I unplugged it.

Did you properly eject it, or did you just unplug it?

I properly eject it, it says "ok to disconnect", I unplug it, but that screen stays up, and I can't reset it using menu/select. As soon as I plug it in it goes back to disk mode saying "Do Not Disconnect"

Try holding Menu+Select longer. There's absolutely no reason why it wouldn't restart if you turn hold off then on again, and hold menu+select long enough.
