Exclude folder from database

Hi.
Maybe this question already was here, but I couldn't find a solution.
Is it possible to exclude a folder from database initialisation? So I don't have my mp3s twice...
I made a tagnavi config file, but is is kind of slow. I would like the iPod_Control folder not to be scanned at all....

I don't think you can exclude folders from the scan, but you can hide them in the Database view if you use a custom layout. See here:

To hide the contents of ipod_control you could use a condition like this in the filters:
? filename !~ "ipod_control"


But why don't you just delete the duplicate files?

Becasue I have my files in iPod_Control directory for original firmware playback and also copied in directory structure for rockbox and for backup...
I modified the filters, but it seems to work slower now. I always get "Searching... 0 Found" message for quite long time...I think it was quicker with unmodified filters....

Do you have the "Load to RAM" option in the Databse settings enabled?

No, it is turned off. Should I turn it on? It is quicker method? And how moch RAM does database need?

Not enough that you'll notice it other than it speeds up the database loads.

Although if you're using the database mode - I'm at a loss as to why you've bothered with the two copies of music - it'll quite happily work with the music files iTunes has loaded onto your ipod. You don't need the second copy.

I don't think that is necessary anymore.  I renamed all of my music files from "4 letters" to "artist - title" using MediaMonkey and they still playback in the original firmware.  However, I left them in the folder they were in (i.e. F01, F02, etc.).  I am using a 5G iPod, btw.

I have 80gb 5g iPod so I have no problem with free space as my library is "only" 25gigs big...
I just like my own folder and file name structure...But I dont want to rename all mp3s in iPod libray...What is even good for when I'd had my mp3 in F00-F50 folders?
I just would like to take advantage of my directory structure and ID3tag database....And also left iPod library untouched....

Exactly. If you're using the Rockbox database on your copied files in the folder structure you want, you're defeating the purpose of what you're trying to achieve (backup). There is no reason as to why you would need to have copies of your music files in a folder structure of your creation and in the iPod's folder structure. Just create the Rockbox database from the files contained in the iPod_Control folder. If you want backups of your music, why backup on the same device? If your iPod HD dies, you'll lose your original and backup files.

He wants to use both (or should I say all three) options.  How about a little less effort convincing him it's a waste (he explained he has enough space) and a little more attention to if his desires are possible.
If I understand correctly:
1 - He wants to use the stock Apple firmware, and the F'd file structure this requires.
2 - He wants to be able to use Rockbox and navigate by directory structure.  (This already requires two copies of his music.)
3 - He wants to be able to play with Rockbox's database without seeing two copies of every file show up.  Thus he original question - Can he exclude folders from showing up in the database.
While I agree that the idea this serves any form of backup is mistaken, PaulJam and bascule have both offered solutions and it is up to riffmaker to decide the cost:benefit analysis for himself.

You may only be referring to his specific situation, but in case you are not: another reason this might come up is if you want to have the same song encoded with two different codecs, perhaps to compare them to see what differences you hear.  For example, I recently selected a few favorite albums and re-encoded them with flac.  I also have them encoded with ogg vorbis.  I was just curious whether I could hear a difference between them, but I need to have both versions on my H-120, but don't want both in my database.  I keep all my music under a top level folder, called Music.  I decided to put the flac files under a separate top level folder, called "flac Music."  I imagine the duplicates are in my database, but my WPS doesn't show them because the view assumes all music is under my original Music folder.
