Recording - Where is the Current Directory Option???
« on: July 19, 2007, 05:23:53 AM »
For several years now I have been using Rockbox with my FM Recorder and I love all the features, thanks a lot!!

However, I recently just updated to a daily build from Release 2.5 and there is no setting to have the recordings in anything but the root directory as far as I can find.  Being that I record daily this is a very vital feature for me,  if it has been removed for whatever reason please let me know and I guess I'll just have to go back to 2.5 :(

I thank you in advance for your time and help in this matter.

1) please don't shout (use all caps)
2) no need to give text fancy styles, plain black will do
3) answer to your question: select the directory you want to use, open the context menu and select the bottom option which should read 'Set as recording dir' or something like that

Thank you for showing how to change the directory.

However, this does not solve my problem.

I want the option to Record always in the "Current Directory" because I record different things in several different folders on a regular basis.  Is this option still available???????

P.S. You Shout when you want to get noticed, it worked didnt it?

People get noticed here whether they shout or not - so try to stay polite please.

Also - please stick to black text - there's no need for the red and blue as far as I can see.

Not really, if anything it is counter productive.  I tend to look at the thread title and think, "Oh, someone else who is making it more difficult for me to read, I won't bother then."

The only reason I am reading this now is because I am bored at work ;)

It depends on what you mean by "noticed."  We all noticed that you shouted and used garish colors in your posts.  But you've gotten more responses to the shouting than to your actual question.

Now, since you've already ignored one very polite request, let me make this clear:  post in ordinary black text, or your posts will be removed.

Since you have to move to the directory anyway, why not just select it with the "Set as recording directory" option? It should be just one more button press than the current directory method.

Even better:

You can save config files now and name them whatever you want from the recording menu. (write .cfg file)

Therefore you only need to set up the various settings (including paths) once.

Subsequently, from the recording menu you choose "browse .cfg file" and select the one you want.

I.E. Lecture 01, Lecture 02, Monthly Meeting, Weekly Meeting, Etc.

You can even have different inputs, different encodings, channel configs etc.

Cool right? (implicit and profound thanks to all the developers)

I apologize to everone out their that was bothered by my "Shouting", I am new at this and I apparently have much to learn in the way of forum etiquette, I was just trying to get my question answer quickly, I sincerely do apologize if it was bothersome or offensive in any way.

Thanks for the tip, it does sound like a pretty useful trick I'll have to give it a try, I was just so use to doing it my "old" way and I was shocked when I could no longer do it.  Thanks for the advice.

Before a file a request for this, I would like to find out if anyone knows why it was removed to begin with, because it could be there was a reason and therefor it would uselessly bother the developers with unnecessary requests.
Please post if you know anything on the matter.

Also, am I the only who was bothered by this feature being missing, because it would be silly to post a feature request just for myself.
Please post if you would like this feature added back to rockbox.

Could you please read our full forum guidelines? They also ask that you not post more than one post in a row if nobody has responded, but instead edit your posts.

As to why the feature was removed, it really wasn't. It was just made more explicitly controllable. Now you can't accidentally record in your /music/ folder because you manually select your recording folder not just by browsing into it, but by actually choosing to set it in the context menu.

I agree with Llorean. The current implementation is a superset (or a generalization) of the old method. The "old way" still exists. It's just more generalizable now.

IMO this is a big improvement to RockBox.  Especially if you start using .cfg files.
