Well, I got Rockbox installed on my 3G last night with no problems whatsoever.  Haven't had too much time yet to figure out how to do what I want yet, but so far, there are a few reasons why I like this a heck of a lot better than the original firmware even with better transfer software ( hating iTunes is what started this all  ;)

I did notice a few funny things but nothing I can put my finger on yet.  I will experiment some more and if I can duplicate anything consistently, I will head over to the bug reporting section to post it and/or maybe even try to fix it (been looking for a way to keep my C skills sharp in my current Java world anyway  :o

The best way to do it? Grab the Rockbox source and study it. Or any open source project written in C, of course. :)
