iPod G3 installation issue

<< < (3/4) > >>

saintAlphonzo:
I will, thanks for the quick update ;D

So, since there still aren't releases per se, the current daily builds are stable enough to use?

This is great, I was so disappointed last month when I wasn't able to use Rockbox.

Thanks again!!

LambdaCalculus:
From personal experience, I've been running Rockbox since I got my iPod video last Xmas, and I have had next to no problems with stability. In fact, Rockbox seems more stable nowadays than it did way back in December of last year.

You can use either the daily builds or a current build, which is changed with every SVN commit. But a lot of the devs recommend using current builds, since we can catch bugs and fix them a little more quickly that way.

Llorean:
1) We recommend "Current builds" not "Daily Builds"
2) Current builds should be considered development version.

Stable versions will be in one manner or another marked as stable (for example, a version-numbered release). When a player is added to the "Supported" list, this merely means that we think Rockbox "runs" on it now. It may still be buggy, but it's ready for the general population to attempt to use, may be fine, or may be buggy in which case properly filed bug reports are welcome.

LambdaCalculus:
It goes to prove that one should be just a wee bit more careful about the words he chooses to describe something. I should have written:

--- Quote --- the iPod 3G port is offically supported as of 3 August
--- End quote ---

As...

--- Quote --- The iPod 3G port is at a usable state as of 3 August
--- End quote ---

Thanks for pointing out the error I made, Llorean.

Llorean:
Well it is officially supported. Whereas the previous response was "The port has serious stability issues and is still in early development" when people had problems, it's now "That shouldn't be happening, and needs to be looked into."

All the basic functionality should be done/usable. It's just a case of "usable" not meaning the same thing as "released" or "stable".
