iPod G3 installation issue
turboluv:
so last night i installed rockbox on my G3 ipod. i fif the firmware stuff and turned it on, and the rockbox screen came up, and it lit up the 4 buttons, wheee! and then nothing happened, the screen continued to proudly display the rockbox logo, and my buttons continued to gleefully shine red.
no amount or combinations of button pressing and holding could undo it. so i set it aside and decided to wait till the betteries died, as the charge was not a full one. i then decided to have a drink. and another. and another. and i think maybe about two more, when yay! i dischovered taht my i pdo was i nfact dead. (drunkenness simulated)
so i charged it for a few minutes, and plugged it into the computer no doubt thinking 'i would show that stupid gen3/rockbox," went straight to the drive and threw that awful .rockbox folder away! i then unplugged it and turned it on again, to get a screen that says something about ''rockbox firmware blah blah bad news" and now my computer refuses to acknowledge it at all aside from informing me that there is something plugged in, but it has no clue what and it doesn't like it one bit.
itunes can't see it, nothing works at all. when it's plugged into the computer, it shows me the apple logo for about 2-3 seconds, and shuts down.
is it time to buy a new ipod?

Deleting the .rockbox folder as you hinted you did does not remove the bootloader.
Uninstallation instructions for that step are in the manual.

sorry about the profanity deal, i'm used to forums where it's all good or where it auto-censors you.

right, well that's all well and good but the point is that if my computor can't recognize it then i cant very well use any software on it, can i? ;-) it doesn't even show up as a mass storage device like it originally did...
so anyway, if i get it working again, is this a known issue? did i just get lucky?
GodEater:
To get your PC to see it as a mass storage device again you need to start it in disk mode. Instructions for this can be found in the top thread of this forum.
