Help, my ipod is broked?
« on: July 16, 2007, 05:15:09 PM »
Hmm, ill tell it in a story mode, however this does not deminish the seriousness of this situation ><

 i got a generation 1 ipod nano

after i recently charged the  batteries for my ipod, i moved some music onto rockbox and took it into bed to listen.
i was playing with the settings, changed the repeat settings and the sleep timer. i turned on alarm to test it, i set it to 5minutes. after i turned it off, i waited 5 mins but it didnt turn on!
i tried the menu + select combo many times but it still hasnt turned on, i tried plugging the ipod into the computer, at first it came up with the apple logo, but it remained for like, 4mins. i figured it crashed so i unplugged.
i took out i pod, then put it back in, it wouldnt turn on :?
after i plugged it in for hte second time, i got the message, 'very low battery please wait (or something or rather).
and thats the end of my ipod, i occasionally get the message when im lucky 'very low battery' i know it isnt low battery because it was 96% batteries when i turned it off. and i also left the low message to charge for ~5-6hours. HELP ME!!!
how do i turn it on?

tl;dr

i broke my ipod, help me

If you get the very low battery warning then you battery is NOT charged. The apple firmware does not lie about this. I don't care what you *think* your battery was at - it's now in desperate need a long long charge - ideally from a wall charger.

--EDIT--

Okay - pay attention to Llorean's post then.

No, sometime the Apple firmware lies about this (I've experienced it firsthand). But if a hold switch On/Off then holding Menu+Select for 30 seconds doesn't work, you need to charge (or try that a few more times).

Interesting.

Well the only time I've ever seen that "Very Low Battery" warning, my battery was indeed completely flat. So in my *personal* experience, the Apple firmware hasn't ever lied to me. :)

Then the battery isn't charged. Or you did it wrong, didn't hold your fingers still enough or similar. I honestly find it somewhat difficult to believe you sat in place for 20 minutes just turning hold on and off and holding menu+select, honestly. Did you really hold it for an actual 30 seconds, as timed by a clock?

Try charging your battery for a day, then doing it while it's still plugged in. It sounds like your battery is actually low then.

This could be due to one of three things :

1) A faulty ipod cable not carrying the charge to the ipod properly.
2) A faulty charger / USB port
3) A duff battery / charging circuit in your ipod.

The first is probably the easiest to check if have any friends who also own an ipod (i.e. borrow theirs).

The second is also pretty easy to check - either change the charger (again borrowing another), or try using a different computer to do the charging.

The last one would probably mean having to return your ipod to apple.

when it was charging, it would turn off, then back on with the very low battery sign,

Keep going - you are getting there, just very slowly :(

As you have stated, the condition has improved from my screen flickers for a bare milisecond or so, to when it was charging, it would turn off, then back on with the very low battery sign

The 'Very Low Battery' screen is a good indication that charging is in progress. Give it another straight 24 hours of charge (without fiddling) and see what happens then.
