Rockbox installation
« on: November 05, 2004, 08:06:43 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with the installation of rockbox.  I'm trying to install it on my jukebox 15.

I currently have about 2oo songs on my jukebox & i do not see a root folder on it.  Now, am i suppose to create one and then extract the rockbox files from the winzip into that folder?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

The root folder is the toplevel folder. If you use windows and your Archos pops up as unit J:, the root dir of your archos is J:\.

That's justthe thing.  I don't see any other folder except my mp3 folders that i created.  Should I just reinstall the firmware and then try to install rockbox?

Does your player appear as a disk when you connect it with the USB cable?

If yes, that _is_ the root folder. Unzip rockbox there.

If you still don't understand Daniel...

Root folder = you double-click the drive name for your jukebox, and viola your in the root folder!

I have got to be doing something wrong.  When I plug in my jukebox to my computer, i see my disk coming up as jukebox j.  i open up the rockbox zip and extract it into jukebox j, unplug my device from the usb and turn it on.  I see no rockbox firmware.  only the original firmware 1.28.  thats it.  I'm passed being a computer beginner.  I don't get it.

i appreciate the feedback.

Did you really "safely unplug" the jukebox?

If you are unsure about the whole installation process, I can recommend the windows installer. You can download it from the Download page.

1) Download the rockbox installer: http://www.rockbox.org/download/rockbox-2.3-install.exe

2) Insert the jukebox

3) Run the installer, select the appropriate jukebox model and drive letter, and install it

4) Click on the USB icon in the system tray and select "safely unplug" (or whatever it says)

5) When the computer says it's OK, unplug the jukebox.

Done.

Hey LinusN,

You're the greatest.  Used the windows installer and now I have the infamous, much talked about "ROCKbox".  Now I have to mess with it for a couple of days until I get the hang of it and get the setting to my liking.

Once again LinusN, thanks again.
