does anyone know if mpegplayer will have rewind and fast-forward features anytime soon?

We generally do not predict when and if features will be implemented.  Since Rockbox is developed entirely by volunteers working in their spare time, there is no specific timetable for development.

I think this would be the most important update to the mpegplayer (unless of course support for different formats)
