updating the installed build
« on: July 16, 2007, 06:01:34 PM »
before i start, i just wanna say rockbox rocks  ;)

anyways, here's my question.  i installed rockbox yesterday on my 5g ipod using the latest build.

if a new build comes out, do i have to replace the whole .rockbox folder? or can i keep some of them to keep my settings? (themes, icons, fonts, etc..)

basically i wanna know what's the best way to upgrade the currently installed build without having to redo all my configuration settings.

also, how often should i upgrade the build installed on my ipod?

thanks

Yes and yes. Just replace the contents of the /.rockbox folder (usually you can just extract the zip file as you did when installing Rockbox). Custom configuration files / themes etc. won't be changed by this (unless you manually remove that folder first).

This is also described in the manual btw.

Your configuration won't be overwritten when you update your daily build.

But there will be those times that certain updates to Rockbox will require you to clear your setting and revert to the default ones. These will usually be pointed out with certain updates.

Actually, required cleared settings don't happen any more, the system is much more flexible now than it was.
