Dock for h120
« on: July 12, 2007, 08:38:37 AM »
Hi all,

Do they make something like a dock for the h120?

I would love to get something to put in my car/office.

If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

I've never seen an official dock from iriver, but there are plenty of do-it-yourself projects out there that document building a custom dock for the H100 and H300 series.

Try Misticriver, or just search around Google.

No such dock ever existed in the U.S.  I have a faint recollection that there may have been something in Korea once (but I think I'm wrong about this--otherwise, I and many others would have jumped on it, even at inflated prices).  A few people at Misticriver.net posted threads with docks they had made--some of which were spectacular, and a few of which were sold on eBay.

I ended up with a makeshift dock (on my desk right now):  a small grey perforated metal easel with a 45 degree ledged angle big enough to hold an audio player (my iHP-160), originally manufactured as a third-party Mac accessory (called the Gperch).  Looks pretty attractive, and the player power cord loops up to the player from underneath the easel, with a headphone jack from my stereo on top; 2 easy connections and I'm set (and without removing my player from its case, which it never leaves).

Oooh, sweet!  :)

Do you think this can hold the H300 models up as well?

I would assume so (there's little difference in size between the players).  The two "prongs" on the easel section, on which the bottom of the player rests, extend out about 5/8" and are spaced towards either side of the bottom of the player.  That's where the power jack and USB jack are on the iHP-1xx players--however, the jacks are on the front end of the players and so there is no interference between the prongs and the jacks.  (And even if there were some issue, one could put some rubber "bumpers" onto the easel section so that the player rests out a bit further (there actually are protective bumpers there to begin with, but they are fairly flat).)

The main question would be in finding the Gperch--they disappeared from availability a few years back.  But one could get lucky, especially at Mac sites, or find something similar.

(Having said that, I just found it for sale, seemingly, at this Portuguese Mac website at a bit under 30 Euros.  http://www.lojamac.com/stock/product_info.php?products_id=606&osCsid=ed8e86b740daa9098b94a65c9d10fa89)

Thanks for that link, Mikerman! Unfortunately, my Portugese is not very good (I'm more fluent in Spanish), so I can't really tell if they'll ship to the U.S. or not. I'd love to get a couple of these; I can keep one for my iPod and give the other to my girlfriend for her iriver H320.

I actually tried placing an order and it seems that they don't ship to the U.S. (if my Portuguese is correct).  But who knows--maybe an email could change that, or another source is available.  An eBay search got no hits.

I'm going to try and run the site through Babelfish later, just to confirm.

And I'll also look around for another store that sells the Gperch.

That looks great!!

It would work in my office, but wouldn't in my car.....

Not unless you had one of those nice, flat, wide consoles between the front seats.

Ahh, the prospect of a Rockboxed player in an already decked out car makes me wish I had a driver's license!  :P

I just hate it when good products get discontinued.  Makes me want to always buy 2 of everything.

I can't view it from my computer at work (idiots here insist on Internet Exploiter), but I'll look at them from my house. My girlfriend will certainly like this!

Thanks!
