Yesterday's Build (Gigabeat F40) Panic Mount 0

I installed yesterday's build and this was an oddity.

I restarted my computer while still connected by USB
F40 displayed on the screen (*Panic* Mount 0)
Had to turn off the battery, restarted fine
I tried this on my notebook as well and it does the same thing.

I recently updated my Gigabeat F40 from the 3.0 version to 3.9 and had this problem as well.  The problem occurred over several different computers ranging from Ubuntu Linux ( versions 8.04 and 9.04 ) to Windows XP.  It does not happen every time I disconnect the USB though.

What I've found is that, if the screen is dimmed and not showing the USB symbol when you remove the USB cord, when it lights back up and tries to show the Rockbox main menu it instead displays the error

If instead I hit the touch-pad to bring the screen light back up, displaying the USB image...  If I remove the USB cord at this point, it goes back to the Rockbox main menu.


I've tested over and over again and this behavior persists.  So it appears that if you disconnect the USB cord while the screen is dimmed is what triggers this error.

I tried keeping the backlight off while disconnecting in XP and had no problem; I don't know how many tries it would take to duplicate GigaBrick's result, assuming there's a pattern there.

I have always had the backlight forced on while plugged and still experience the panic on occasion. Furthermore, it happens from bootloader USB mode, which doesn't fiddle with the backlight.

ETA: Could the cradle play any role in this? I've nearly always used the cradle when connecting it.

Cradle could be a possible difference, as I always connect straight-to-usb

If I can find mine I'll test it out.
