Unless you own the game and extract the wad yourself obtaining the wads through other means is illegal. Please do not ask where to find them.

The only commercial wads Rockbox's Doom works with are Doom, Doom 2, Ultimate Doom, Plutonia, and Evilution.

The Counterstrike wad he's asking about would be a pwad, referred to in Rockbox's Doom as "addons". While the wad itself is questionable (Counterstrike itself is copyrighted) there's not a commercial game to extract it from. Should he find a copy of it somewhere, he'll just run it as an addon, do Doom 2 or Freedoom (Freedoom's IWAD can replace the main game wad for Doom 2 and work in its place for any purpose).

So linking to the Counterstrike wad would be inappropriate as we do try to stay quite clean in regard to copyright questions. Besides, Doom addons are a more general thing: Rockbox's Doom works with any addons that will run with the official Doom binaries, so there's plenty of internet devoted to that already.

Yes, you can play counter strike on your ipod. There is a doom wad that works perfectly on rockdoom. link to copyright material removed. at the end of the post, therell be a link to the new counter strike wad. get that one and use it as an addon with doom2.wad. Done!

I think that this is ironic because i started a business of sorts at my school toward the end of the year and everyone payed me $5 each to take home their ipod and load rockbox and a bootloader menu onto it. It had 2 selling points: Pokemon games and Counter Strike. Nonetheless, if i countinue, i will be a very rich man. hope this helps.

Cheers,

Apoorva (Do you know me by the way, locagent?)

I'm pretty sure that's illegal; but nonetheless, brilliant.   ;D

Okay, to put a few things to rest:

First: Charging people to install Rockbox isn't illegal. Ethics or morality aside, the license permits just that. How do you think companies make money off Linux? One of the primary means is charging for "Support" and related services. What would be illegal is if he does not pass on the appropriate license information, and offer to provide the source. Essentially, he's making himself a 'distributor' of Rockbox and needs to follow the restrictions and conditions set forth by the GPL.

Beyond that, if he's providing Gameboy Roms, or any other copyright content that he doesn't have explicit permission to distribute, then yes, there is a problem.

Those are ROMs, not WADs and you would use a device like this (many such devices are out there and I just chose one off of the top of google search): http://www.gameboyroms.net/flash_linker/gba_flash_linker_xtreme_usb.htm

If it's Doom WADs you're looking for, you can get them off the original Doom floppies/CDs if you own them. If you don't, well... tough luck.

Please remember: don't ask for ANY Doom WADs or Game Boy ROMs on these forums. Asking for copyrighted material is bad, mmmkay?

There are some legal Doom wads. Freedoom is a good example, no copyright content at all.

As well, many PWADs contain no copyright content, though that varies greatly (for example, the "Aliens Total Conversion" which was quite popular when Doom was much newer got taken down by Fox because it was based on the movie Aliens). For that reason we ask that you always be clear and certain about the license and copyright status of a .wad before posting it here.

We're not going to take chances, so if it's uncertain, we'll very likely simply remove it.
