iHP140-What to do with the .bin file
« on: July 11, 2007, 10:00:19 AM »
Hi - I read the instructions, really I did, but...  I can't seem to get past the -1 error.  I get the loader screen and all, I can even move back and forth between r/b load and the iRiver load and get the RockBox USB screen, but I still get the -1.  Could it be because I didn't do something I should have with the .bin file?  I tried a couple of different things, but can't seem to get RockBox to do it's thing.  Please... Any asistance would be most appreciated.

I'm not sure what .bin file you're referring to - but a Rockbox -1 error normally means you didn't unzip the rockbox.zip file for your DAP into the root folder of your player.

You did do that right ?

Yeah, I've got a Rockbox folder right off the Root that is 3.64MB. The .bin file is a file named <>
Thanks for helping with this-

Named what ?

Don't use the > and < signs here - they don't work too well.

There should be a rockbox.iriver file in your .rockbox folder - can you check that there is ?

It may be worth you giving this a try :

It's the all in one installer for Rockbox that's still under beta - testing. We're pretty confident of it these days though.

Ab-So-Lute-Ly Perrfect!  All I had to do was ues the updater part, the firmware part was okay.  Many Many thanks!  It does say H120 at startup...  That's normal, event hough it's really an H140, right?  The fonts are nice too!

Thanks again -

Yes, there are two "categories" in the H100 series. The H110/115 fall into one, the H120/140 fall into the other. The 120 and 140 run the exact same software, they just have different disks, so it's referred to as the H120 software.

That's what I thought - The 1`20 and the 140 and the same.  Did you ever figure out what the bin file was all about?

The .bin file is the bootloader, assuming you're manually patching the .hex. Where were you instructed to download it?

Not real sure where or why. At first I was a little unsure what to down load, so I got all the H140 stuff and then pulled down the pdf and read it.  I didn't do anything with it because it didn't say what to do with it.

I did some forensics on the differences between what worked and what didn't; it comes down to a dot, as in the one BEFORE the rockbox directory on the H140...  So if anyone else out there doesn't have a DOT, you need to get one.

Thanks one more time...  I LOVE the Rockbox interface, it seems more intutive than the iRiver version and the changable fonts kicks butt!  And I haven't even begun to try the system refinements yet.  If it works this well with my iRiver, maybe I think about a real iPod now that I could do anyting I want!  Soooo Cool!

I personally would pick the H140 over an iPod any day.
