iPod corruption/Doom question
« on: July 10, 2007, 04:01:41 AM »
Ok, let me start by saying I absolutely love rockbox! best pice of software since Daemon Tools (lol). I am a fairly advanced computer user etc etc and am absolutely obsessed with having the best sound and what not available to me.. (Doom being THE greatest game of all time also.)

However when I plug my iPod (5G 30GB) into computer iTunes is certain that it is corrupted... This didn't happen after plugging it in the first couple of times after installing RockBox (installed 2 days ago..).. but has since done it every time I try and plug it in. This isn't really an issue.. other than me wanting to add some movies on. I just wanted to know if it is normal or not?

Also a side note (While I'm sure this is the wrong place and it will be ignored.. : No matter how many times I try and learn coding.. I just find it absolutely hopeless for me.. And was wondering why no one has made a Doom version that uses controls similar to that of the Rockboy - where you basically hover on the button to move in a direction.. this would enable being able to shoot with middle button, and change weapon by pressing bottom button *as do don't do this as much and it would only slightly move you backwards* - Same would apply for having strafing as hovering possibly and pushing to turn?

Note -- I couldn't see any better forum to ask the first question in.. if it is wrong - sorry. (I use to manage a forum and I know how much it annoys admins...)

I just hit with the same issue too, not sure if it is caused by rockbox, I am using the EvilG release with my 5.5G 80GB. Have never had this corruption happen to me prior to this, all my movies cannot be seen inside the ipod firmware, instead i get my full song listing in the video section.

Ooook... It would appear the problem fixed itself when I finally bothered to update iTunes from 6.1 to 7.3 (lol... stupid update takes like an hour.. even on my adsl2+ cause there download sites suck)...

As for your problem mamboman... have you by chances placed something inside the iPod firmwares section of your ipod? if so you should remove it as this could be a source of the problem.

Try removing the rockbox firmware and backing up everything else to your hard drive.. then see if it still does it when you boot into iPod firmware...

nope, i have not placed anything in the ipod firmware section as i do not even know where to place in the ipod firmware section. i only see one partition, the only things i have added is the .rockbox folder in the root partition. anyway what i did was do a firmware reload and then put everything back. all are in order now, just hope it does not happen again as reloading my 80G video takes a helluva long time :(
