It is very hard to break the habit of not calling it a "Root Menu" when you come from a Unix culture ;D.  Essentially that is what it is though.

Same here. Force of habit.

But I do understand that it would be a nightmare of epic proportions if everyone suddenly could customize their menus, and then came to us for help screaming that they can't find X option, or Y selection. It's like those people that can't find the "Any" key on the keyboard.

Llorean:
Well, anyone *can* customize their menus. It just requires enough technical knowledge that you're understanding what you're getting into, and more specifically, what you've done (and know that you can fix it by downloading an SVN build).

Overall reordering the main menu is probably one of the less difficult tasks in Rockbox programming, and probably doesn't require a user to know C. Similar to changing button mappings, but a little bit more complex, it can be managed by reading the appropriate file.

cpchan:
Hail Bob,

Can't resist that one. I hope you stuck with Slackware.  ;D

Yes, I agree.

Ha, I remember that one. IIRC, that was from Compaq tech support.

He said it isn't the root menu, because the term doesn't apply.  From the way it is designed, it isn't a root menu.
