Bootloader for defaulting to apple firmware?
(1/1)
madsic:
I have read through a couple of these threads but they all seem to have been rendered obsolete by the changes to the bootloader (this spring/winter I think?) Also, mikeage.net seems to have been a resource but all bootloading related stuff has been pulled from his web site.
To clarify: Instead of having to use the 'lock switch' to load apple firmware instead of rockbox, I want to reverse the procedure and have my nano load the apple firmware by default (and only load rockbox if the lock switch is used). It's a holiday thing: power conservation is top priority and it's not exactly rockbox's forte :( Can anybody help with download locations, instructions or?

I'm not sure I understand your reason for needing a bootloader that starts the Apple firmware first.
During normal use the Apple firmware never actually stops running (it just sleeps when you hold the PLAY button). When you start your ipod again from this state, it just resumes the Apple firmware - it doesn't go through the bootloader.
The Apple firmware will only perform a full power-off after being unused for a day or two (I think the exact time depends on the ipod). It then doesn't seem difficult to turn the hold switch on...
Or am I missing something?

No, I guess you're right - didn't really think about that. I never really used the firmware before switching so I'm not that well acquainted with it.
