H10 6GB crashes during audio playback
« on: July 08, 2007, 11:44:27 PM »
I've been having this problem with the past week's current builds - so maybe the new processor boost feature has something to do with it?

Anyway - whenever I play an audio directory or album on my iRiver H10 6 GB, it crashes after anwhere from 5 to 15 minutes of playback. I end up having to remove the battery, put the battery back in place, and then the player works fine again.

At first I thought it was something to do with the backlight. It was crashing frequently after I had the LCD backlight set to "30 sec" and music would be playing. So I turned the LCD setting to "on", sacrificing battery life, but still with hope that the player wouldn't die during audio playback.

Well, 5 minutes ago it died just like it would do when the backlight was off, but since the backlight was on, I got an error message!

It read (among various pink splotches all across the "Now Playing" screen):

"Undefined instruction at 0059220"

No clue what that means, but hopefully you can address this in future updates.

Just to get some more information for the moment (and maybe to rule out factors that could interfere):

What bootloader version are you running/when did you last update it?

Edit: And I just read that the 5/6GB H10s can be either of the UMS (USB Mass Storage) or MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) type. If that's right - what type is yours?

My H10 is MTP, although I use the UMS trick to transfer files to and from the device.

I updated the bootloader about a week ago with whatever version is linked to in the manual. (http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/iriver/H10_5GB-MTP/H10.mi4)

How can you tell if the bootloader has been updated? Has it been updated in the past week?

This bug report on Flyspray looks very similar to the problem I'm having -

I think the problem is with the iCatcher theme.

I stopped using it and haven't had any problems with the default theme.
