Rockbox TV out support?
« on: July 08, 2007, 06:08:19 PM »
Hello, It's been a while since I was asking a question instead of answering them! :D

I was thinking about buying an AV plug for my 5.5 video ipod (it's the plugs that you would connect to a TV to watch movies or view photos on a TV), and I was thinking. Does Rockbox Support the TV out AV plugs? Part of the reason I wanted to buy them was to play Rockdoom on my TV, and I wanted to see if it'll work before I shell out 25 bucks.

Might I suggest http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?action=search as per the forum guidelines?

Hey Llorean.

I literally JUST read that page. I forgot to mention this AV cord isn't in the Dock connector. It connects in the Headphone Jack. Is this different, or does that follow the same guidelines? 'cuz I didn't find an AV Video section in that list.

Sorry I didn't check beforehand.

Um, I linked to the forum search feature. Because your question has been answered in many threads here.

Hmm... It seems that Not enough is known about it. I'll buy the AV cords and try it myself, and tell you guys the results

I believe enough is known to know it doesn't work.

The AV cord is definately worth it. However using the original firmware is the best way to go as it does it all perfectly. Also... If you don't want to pay that much for it.. try eBay - I got mine off there for $6 and I've never had any trouble with it (been using it for 10 months now)

You will not be able to play doom on your TV, though.  You can play Doom through Rockbox, but we can't access the TV out capabilities of the Broadcom chip.  Alternatively, the Apple firmware can utilize the Broadcom chip, but will not let you do many of the things that Rockbox lets you do.
