is it a bad idea to leave my ihp-140 on 24/7?
« on: July 05, 2007, 06:00:21 PM »
i can't start rockbox because i get the error:

ATA error: -32
Insert USB cable and press a button

i've done everything i can think of to systematically troubleshoot it:

- the rockbox hack from http://linus.haxx.se/rockbox-tandoc.zip doesn't help,

- the battery doesn't look ballooned

- the hard drive seems fine (a thorough scandisk found no errors).

- formatting the HD hasn't helped either.

LinusN said he fixed several irivers with the same problem by resoldering the daughterboard so he kindly had a look at mine and nothing looked visually wrong so he resoldered everything and that fixed the problem.... for about a week.

now it's started doing it again and today it failed to boot 6 times and i got it on the 7th.  now i'm scared to switch it off again

my question is, is it a bad idea to leave the iriver on 24/7 like a mobile phone?

also can anyone think of anything else to try?  because i think i've covered all the bases

thanks

joanne
