Sansa 280 vs First generation iPod Nano
Liver:
First off, I really really like RockBox and thanks to all the wonderful people that make it possible.
Currently I have an iPod, first generation, 4 gig nano. With rockbox it has some annoying bugs. Such as not being able to charge from the wall outlet, so I always have to use my computer. Battery life is poor, and if I leave it alone (without the hold slider activated) then the battery drains.
Probably the biggest concern is that I can NOT use my ipod with any docking station (have to use with headphones). The charging capacity of the docks sends it into a forever restart pattern (much like the wall charger).
Those are quite annoying, however much much better than the original Apple software.
I was wondering if the Sansa would be a better option? I know it has more capacity, but was wondering if I would have more functionality.
Also if you know what I am doing wrong with the Nano, please let me know. I recently did a clean, updated (re) install with the same problems.
Thanks

well it depends on what you are planning to use your player for. For example, video on the nano is much better than on the sansa (although i do fine with video on mine). It does have more space and a large screen but i'm pretty sure audio playback would be the same. the nano is probably a lot more stable than the sansa though.
gnu:
Reboot into the Apple OS before you plug it into a wall charger / docking station.
Does it still reboot?
I had a nano before and my battery didn't drain with the hold switch deactivated.
bascule:
First off, you are not turning it off properly. If you do a (really) long press on the play button, it does a proper shutdown and lasts for weeks if not used.
This may also contribute to your other problems, as a proper shutdown saves settings.
As for charging, I never had a wall charger with my Nano, but I had no problems with charging via USB except the annoyance of resetting afterwards.
soap:
I use a wall charger and my Nano booted into Rockbox w/o problems.
To echo gnu and bascule, I have no problems with my Nano's battery draining when left unused for long periods of time.
