Will crossfeed be helpful in this case?
(1/1)
GarrettGoesBoom:
I just got new Sennheiser eh150 headphones (I love them and recomend them). With these headphones there is line to both left and right speakers (versus just having one ine to either which is on some headphones). I read up on the crossfeed option and i think its to be used for the one line headphones am I right? If so, would crossfeed benifit my headphones too or no? I'd like to know because if it wont benifit I'd like to not have it running and decreasing the battery life.
PaulJam:
I'm not sure if i understand you correctly. When you say "line" do you mean the cable?
Crossfedd should work with all stereo headphones. How the audio signal is actually transported from the headphone socket to the speakers doesn't matter as long as the left and right channel signals stay separated.
GarrettGoesBoom:
Yeah, the connecting cables. When I read where it explains the crossfeed and its use with the headphones and how it compensates for the longer travel time to one earphone over the other (assuming its a single cable connecting). It seems, however, that since there is a cable connected to both left and right earphones you wouldn't really need the crossfeed would you?
PaulJam:
I think there is a misunderstanding what crossfeed does.
Crossfeed is used with headphones to simulate the listening experience that you get when you listen to normal speakers. See in the Rockbox manual for a better description.
The delay that is caused by the cable for one channel being a little bit longer is so small (and i mean really small) that it can't be perceived.
Chronon:
For me, the need for crossfeed depends upon how the music was mastered. Certain music has some instruments hard-panned to one side or the other. This sounds fine through speakers, but kind of messes with me through headphones. It doesn't sound like the instrument is on one side of the stage, it just sounds artificial. (Where is that sound coming from?) Crossfeed tends to remedy this and make it sound more natural. But for other music it makes almost no difference.
